Meet Royal Palm's Expert Pro Staff



Head Tennis Pro
fessional - Don Petrine, Jr.
Don was graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Economics in 1975, where he was captain of the tennis team.  He played on the World Association of Tennis Champions Tour for two years and then began a career in tennis management and teaching.  Don has been a Head Pro and Tennis Director in Miami for 25 years.  He became Head Pro at Royal Palm in 1984.  Don has been active in all areas of tennis, including USTA coaching, directing tournaments and other community activities.  He specializes in developing advanced players and has been influential in the career of Mary Joe Fernandez.  If you have any questions about learning tennis, or training and development, whether you’re young or old, Don’s the person to call.

Assistant Pros

Bev Crane
Bev is from Johannesburg, South Africa, where she was National Junior Champion in singles, doubles and mixed-doubles.  She graduated from the University of Miami in 1982 and then began her teaching career at Kings Bay Country Club.  Bev has been an Assistant Pro at Royal Palm since 1989.  She has over 20 years of teaching experience, skills and knowledge of the game.  Her goal is to teach fundamentals and how to enjoy the game for life.

Chris Fung
Chris grew up in Miami playing tennis in the Richard Dowling league and USTA events.  He graduated from Miami Killian Senior High and completed his college education at Miami Dade Community College, where he received an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.  Married with three children, Chris understands the patience needed with juniors and beginners on the court.  He also excels in communicating with adults on technique and strategy.  His early tutoring skills have been done under John McClean at the JCC and Francisco Montana at the Courts of the Falls.

John Waddell
John is a graduate of St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas.  He has been a teaching pro in Miami for the past thirty-one years.  John was a head pro at The Courts of Lazarus and The Marriott Hotel before coming to Royal Palm in 1990.  John specializes in developing and fine-tuning fundamental skills.

Terry Segall
Terry is a tennis professional who studied Recreational Leadership at Tyler College.  His certifications include USPTA, USPTR and USTA.  He has coached tennis full-time at Bollettieri Tennis Academy and, upon returning to Miami, at Crandon Park Tennis Center, where he specialized in intensive training of top level players.  Terry loves working with kids and is proud to have made Royal Palm Tennis Club his home.


Chuck Caudle
Chuck learned to play tennis at Royal Palm.  He went on to become a State doubles champion.  He was the 1997 Dunlop Pro of the Year.  He is a two-time USPTA Grand-Prix Master.  He is USPTA certified (1986) with a Pro 1 rating.  Chuck works well with beginners of all ages.  He also excels in doubles strategy and shot development (technique).

Elizabeth Levinson Petrine
Elizabeth is a USPTA certified teacher and a former world ranked professional.  She played on full scholarship at the University of Miami where she was team Captain and graduated as an Academic All-American.  She was a top 5 nationally ranked junior and an Orange Bowl semi-finalist.  She attended Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy on full scholarship.  She graduated from Killian Sr. High where she won a state championship and was awarded the Miami Herald's All-Dade Player of the Year.  In 2006 she won a national women's 30's doubles title.  She has also won both the Calcutta and Jim Berry Pro-Ams held at Royal Palm.  As a coach she has developed and trained State and National junior champions.  Elizabeth enjoys coaching all levels especially serious players.


Michael Maher
Michael is a graduate from Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy where he spent six years training as a full time student.  Michael has played in many international future and satelite events.  He has been a training partner for over a dozen, top 50 ranked, ATP and WTA touring professionals.  He is a USPTR certified teaching professional since 2001.  As a coach he has trained and developed players at a national level.  Michael enjoys teaching all levels and abilities and is very motivated to develop the future of tennis.

Eric Hechtman
 
Eric was born and raised in Miami.  He was the #3 recruited player in the nation going into college and won the high school state championship 3 years in a row.  He graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Political Science.  He was the team captain for 3 years and he holds the record for the most wins all-time, in University of Miami history.  He was the ACC Champion twice and all Big East Champion twice.  He is the hitting partner for Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Venus Williams and Serena Williams.  Eric enjoys teaching all levels but specializes in fitness, technique and strategy at the intermediate to advance level.
